Are you a Secessionist?

Strange question isn't it? Surprisingly a growing number of people are. It's a natural tendency for humans when life gets too complex to wish to escape. Southern secessionist see federal laws, judicial mandates, and multinational corporations destroying the land of cotton, magnolias, and pecans. They may have a point. The South I grew up in is not the South I live in today. It's not just the South, but the rest of the country as well that is laboring under discontent.

Recently in Chattanooga,Tennessee, Southern secessionists and Northern secessionist met to consolidate forces. Now the Northern secessionist differ radically from the Southern secessionists. The secessionists from New England and New York, not surprisingly, are more liberal, easy going, tree hugging folks who have had enough of the United States government playing "mommy" with their lives. According to recent polls 13% of the population of Vermont wishes to secede from the United States. See Article in Boston Globe.

In the South the biggest secessionist organization is the League of the South based in Alabama and led by Dr.J.Michael Hill (pictured above) of Killen,Alabama.

During the first week of October, 2007, both Northern and Southern secessionists, seeing more commonality than differences, had a consensus of opinion which resulted in the Chattanooga Declaration.

Stay tuned!

Hi Micheal,

I think that if the good Liberal Folks of New England, New York and New Jersey want to be free of the "Right Wing" U.S. Government, and the South, (I assume, the eleven ex-Confederate States, plus Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland and Delaware), want to seceed from the same "Left Wing" U.S. Government, then I say go for it.

As a Scottish Nationalist, who lives in a Devolved Scotland under a Pro-Independence Nationalist Government, I automatically feel affinity with "small nations". And that is what the Individual States of America should be, the pre 1865 Soveriegn States.

When Government gets too big, to powerful, to oppressive or to distant, then you should form yourself a New Government of the People, for the People and by the People.

After all, that is what Democracy should be all about. Representing your electors wishes and not your Parties, Big Businesses, or that of Powerful and Corrupt Individuals.
